Extraction

Extraction is a zine containing two comics- one, “Extraction” and two, “Gossip”. This zine is a personal piece of work. While on the surface it is about my relationship with food, on a deeper level it dips into my world as a highly sensitive person and my reaction to stimuli. My anxiety is masked by indulging in food - a sign of me attempting to hide from feelings that came from overwhelming emotions and overthinking thoughts. 

Having come from a family of dentists, although I am not one myself, I am inspired to use dental terms and images to depict the clinical approach this comic has on the subject. This comic is titled "Extraction" suggesting the sentiment to probe. Extraction is also a dental term for the pulling of teeth - a most feared procedure for patients but welcomed when it is the solution to relieve their pain. (2021)
