Fruit City
Fruit City is a three-page comic submission to Comic Con Singapore 2022’s W.I.P. programme and was selected as one of the Top10 submissions. (I had wanted to draw a fourth page but didn’t have the time to! But if I get the chance to draw it, I’ll put it up here.)
This comic is un-finished at the moment. To give an idea of what the story is about, here’s a short excerpt of the synopsis I wrote for the W.I.P. submission.
Fruit City is a slice-of-life, magical realism story about the lives of migrants in the city called Fruit City.
The story lies in a world where fruits, vegetables and insects are anthropomorphized. Thus, Fruit City is a sunny and affluent city of tropical fruit people with interesting fruit inspired infrastructures and non-fruit migrants who have moved there for different reasons. The main character is Broc, a romanesco broccoli with a mysterious background who has a positive and seemingly innocent and naïve personality. He leaves home (a village in vegetable land) to visit his friend Maggy, a mangosteen, in Fruit City. At Fruit City, he starts his life afresh working for Maggy in her ice cream shop.
