Zombie Diaries Zine
Originally a series of 15 artworks cum cards created for the Genetic Landscape art exhibition (July-August 2020), the Zombie diaries zine is a DIY oracle card set with card descriptions & keywords and suggested instructions on how to play the cards. These cards can be used for storytelling, oracle reading, journal writing, or any other creative ways the reader can think of. Unlike some of my other works, I get to verbalise my thoughts for the 15 paintings in this zine. The zine becomes a documentation of the Zombie diaries artworks, a craft activity (making oracle cards) and a card game(s). It is a fun-to-make project that I am proud of! The Zombie Diaries zine is also on sale at my etsy shop.
The Story:
Zombie Diaries is based on the premise that zombies have taken over the world. There are no human beings left! We have either turned to zombies or were eaten by them! What happens if zombies continue to live without human beings, their main source of food? What do they eat? How do they survive? What do they feel? Each painting is a diary entry by a zombie. They live among nature and the ruins of the city, adapting to an environment where Nature has started to take over. In this series of paintings, I chose to depict elements from the city I live in. Plants, animals, infrastructure and environments are based on places I have been to, things I have seen and researched about in Singapore. Medium: Watercolour, colour pencils, markers, acrylic and ink on watercolour paper.

BEACH MORNING GLORY "When it decays, I felt its organic material seep into the soil, adding nutrients and density into the space around me."

LAMPPOST "It's dark but it isn't the end."

DRAGON "A great gust of wind approached us. With a twinkle in its eye, Draco unfolded its leathery wings with a resounding flap and leapt."

TOUCH-ME-NOT "This is my last breath. The leaflets shivered and closed gently."

LOVE VINE "The vine embraced me in its dance. As its little roots pricked my skin thirstily, I felt my sinews unwittingly stretch deep into the earth drawing up nutrients to share."

BREAKWATER "I will definitely make it this time!"

HIBISCUS "The flower slid down my throat and I relished its delicate velvety matter, ignoring the prickly feelings of uncertainty rising from my gut."

CARRION "I crawled out gingerly but quickly from the cavity, aware of something watching me from behind."

PETRIFIED TREE "The tree bloomed fiery yellow flowers and its trunk bled red sap. A long time passed and it became stone - a brilliant red gem."

CANAL "We floated in from the sea on a full moon and were at the mercy of the tide and waves."

GLOWWORMS "Bracing myself, I followed the trail of lights into the rainforest."

MUSHROOM "I felt a plethora of mysterious sounds moving through the fungal network and I was held to the ground."
