Welcome to my website! How it started and what’s to come.
Hi there! Thank you for dropping by. I will be using this blog page mostly to update happenings on this website and activities that I may be up to that are related to art and illustration. Occasionally, I will write some of my thoughts.
How it started!
This website came about because I decided that I would like to be an illustrator. Although I am not a stranger to making art, I was always on its periphery. Studying and working in fields related to art making but not really in the job of art making. I knew that I skirted around it because I didn’t think I could make a living out of it.
My last job was managing my family’s dental clinics which was not related to art at all! I learned a lot but I also found that I was not suited for it. Being in an ill-fitted job pushed me to think about what I am good at, can contribute to the world and also enjoy doing at the same time.
I begin to seriously think about making art for a living. I felt proficient enough in my artistic and graphic skills to be confident in upgrading and improving them. I have also always been an ideation type of person - enjoying brainstorms and getting excited over ideas easily especially when it involves art and craft. If I were to pursue this trail, what ideas would have come to life and how would my art evolve down the road? What works would I have put out into the world? I realise that given the opportunity, I’d like to know the answer to that question. And that was the defining moment for me. While there were also other considerations, I decided to go for it.
It’s raining fruits
Here’s a random drawing from my sketchbook. After keeping a daily sketching routine for a month, I found that I like dry mediums like pencils, crayons and markers and highlighters because they are no hassle and are super fun!
My favourite fruit drawing is the jackfruit. Wah, It looks so intense with its textured skin. It probably contributes the most to the puddle of fruit juice below.
What's to come
At this moment, my journey is only at its beginning! Many things that I am and will be doing are experimental or try-outs to figure what types of illustrations work for me, how I can use them, etc. I am also open for commissioned works, so if you are interested, drop me a line!
